June Tabor & Friends - Fountains Flowing

June Tabor & Friends - Fountains Flowing

June Tabor is a cultural icon and towering figure in the folk music scene, the 'First Lady of Folk' releasing around 30 albums and performing at countless festivals & events since the early 70s. During this time she has collaborated with many other artists, crossing genres & breaking much new ground.

Folk music is not concerned with transmitting history and tradition alone but also serves to record contemporary events, causes and commentaries and June has excelled in this field, refusing to sell out by adhering stoically to purity of form... and this tenacity paid off eventually as she found success on her own terms. She is open to experimentation, occasionally trying her hand at jazz, rock and other styles (as can be heard here), but generally rejects modern revisionism and frequently performs in time-honoured, pure, unaccompanied a capella format.

June has collaborated with a host of other musicians over the years. From the Carthy & Waterson Family to clàrsach player Savourna Stephenson, from duets with Maddy Prior, guitarist Martin Simpson & pianist Huw Warren to appearances with Fairport Convention, Quercus and her successful albums & tours with the Oysterband. Some memorable highlights are brought together here.

Roving Revellers place June Tabor right up there among the true greats, her body of work comparable to that of Joni Mitchell herself!
