A relaxing selection of ballads, laments and jigs that again highlights shared musical traditions in American and British folk music with magnificent updates of some very old songs.


Tributes to the great Bert Jansch from Show Of Hands, Robert Plant and Alison Krauss run side by side with Jansch originals from the 70s & 80s, including 2 great collaborations with Rod Clements from 1988. Clements also features on the song Beachcomber with the classic Geordie folk rock band Jack The Lad. Several Bob Dylan salutes including cuts by Norah Jones, Mumford & Sons, Steve Earle and the late, great Kris Kristofferson. Dylan himself chips in with 2 takes on the American folk songbook recorded in the 80s & 90s. Rocking roots music from Levon Helm and also 2 live interpretations of Band classics together with Rick Danko from 1983. These songs resonate especially now that the last surviving members have gone to join the great chorus up in the sky. Iris DeMent has one of the most singularly traditional-sounding voices to emerge in modern American music since Dolly Parton while British duo Show Of Hands always break new ground wherever they go.
