Cuts Deep

Image
Cuts Deep Folk deep cuts. ^^free stream & download^^ The stream can be a little slow starting TAP PLAY ONCE THEN AGAIN to play here or tap the building icon to enter our  internet archives page & stream or d/l^^   Saving Grace & Robert Plant return with their new 4 track EP All that Glitters . Two of them feature here: Two Coats is an old gospel song while, in  another nod to Bert Jansch,   Poison is a cover of a half-remembered 1969 number from the Birthday Blues LP, given new life here and perhaps new relevance too in the face of recent discoveries & developments. Both tracks have a bit of a death ballad air to them. Revisiting the 1971 Rosemary Lane LP by Bert Jansch with three songs and an instrumental. This happens to not only be my favourite Jansch album, but also my favourite ever acoustic guitar album while the title track is to me the definitive version of the popular old sea shanty. I wore out a cassette tape copy of this album with co...

Give Peace a Chance 2026

Image
Give Peace a Chance 2026   Topical folk songs, many lamenting and protesting war. Economically motivated conflict benefits only the very few while causing immense damage, loss & suffering. The forecasts for 2026 are ominous as the new year immediately kicked off with more illegal US foreign aggression and more threats against sovereign nations. People link up and demand an end to unnecessary warmongering, sabre-rattling and war conscription while pressuring governments to follow the UN Charter on Human Rights and  show full support for  the ICC, the ICJ, the ECHR and the UN itself so they can all get on with their work in making the world a better place for us all. GIVE PEACE A CHANCE!       ^^stream & download^^ TAP PLAY TWICE or tap on logo^^       The mix opens & concludes most fittingly with John Lennon & the Plastic Ono Band .  Longtime advocate for peace  June Tabor  features with some moving songs fr...

Stoned Folk

Image
STONED FOLK Folky psychedelic rock selection for all the terminal stoners out there. A nod back to all those halycon years hanging out getting nicely mellow on a regular basis hehe.... From folk to blues to rock the mix is naturally heavy on late-60's to mid-70's music but there are a number of more recent tracks sprinkled in & about... A nod to the 1970's when people still believed in coming together in the possibility of aspiring for a better world. We were so close to popular culture driving common debate, think John Lennon, Bob Marley, Marvin Gaye, Nelson Mandela, Muhammed Ali, kids TV shows like Rainbow & Seseme Street, ...and it was all then snatched away from under our feet, labelled first as outdated & now woke .     ^^stream & download^^ TAP PLAY TWICE or tap the logo^^   Leading with the likes of Hawkwind , Gong , The Incredible String Band , The Doors ,  Grateful Dead and an old favourite, the underrated Quintessence , the mix ebbs, flows...

Image
Folk Rock Mixtape A Well That Never Runs Dry The usual blend of the old with the newer as stone-cold classics rub shoulders with a lot of newer material. Positive music for good vibes.    ^^stream & download^^ TAP PLAY TWICE^^ We kick off with some vintage Neil Young from back in 1968. 3 his first solo efforts from after Buffalo Springfield split and UK band Unicorn chip in with an early Young cover also. Two more heavyweight 70's cuts from Fairport with the Bonny Bunch of Roses & Polly on the Shore . Robert Plant blazes hot on Little Maggie & a very original take of  One More Cup of Coffee , while Darkness Darkness is a sonic tour de force. Eliza Carthy also rocks out with Devil in the Woman and 2 other tracks, including live selections from the Oyst...

Over The Hills And Far Away

Image
Over The Hills And Far Away A somewhat eclectic landscape of folk, americana and country with a few rocky outcrops along the way... Four songs by vocalist Judy Dunlop from her excellent Sway With Me LP with Ashley Hutchings from 2009, a celebration of the majesty and stoic beauty of trees that brings environmental degradation into focus. Dunlop has a rich, strong voice remenicent of Sandy Denny at her best. Also featuring songs from the incredible Iris Dement and Gillian Welch alongside David Rawlings . West country folk supergroup Show Of Hands are strongly represented while Neil Young , Free , Jethro Tull , Led Zeppelin and Elvis Costello blend in some slightly different vibes...    Listen to Over The Hills And Far Away by Old Timer in Isan on hearthis.at    Continuous mix 90 mins download from the streaming link above Thanks for passing through!

Tributes to the great Bert Jansch from Show Of Hands , Robert Plant and Allison Krauss run side by side with Jansch originals from the 70s & 80s, including 2 great collaborations with Rod Clements from 1988. Clements also features on the song Beachcomber with the classic Geordie folk rock band Jack The Lad . Several Bob Dylan salutes including cuts by Norah Jones , Mumford & Sons , Steve Earle and the late, great Kris Kristofferson . Dylan himself chips in with 2 takes on the American folk songbook recorded in the 80s & 90s.
