Everyone from Fairport & Sandy Denny, to Pentangle & Emmylou Harris, from June Tabor to Joni Mitchell & Judy Collins and from Steeleye Span & Show Of Hands to Paul Simon & Dylan himself site Joan Baez to some degree as an inspiration and a passer-onner of traditional songs & styles. All of the Earth's, our, resources must be protected & fostered if we are to look to a future but the capitalist mirage makers think only of today, paying little or no heed to long term sustainability, let alone the advancement of humanity and social justice. They can't see past the next $$$ or, rather, they don't give a hoot.  Listen to Like A World Without End by Old Timer in Isan on hearthis.at Selection of great protest songs old & new. Some cutting lyrics written by the legendary Leon Rosselson and a spotlight on vetaran campaigner & artist Eliza Gilkyson. Show of Hands are in serious militant mood. Joan Beaz - Lebanon Palestine Last Lonely & Wretched

Image
Joan Baez - Lebanon 1987 Magnificent and largely overlooked song that was somehow excluded from her then current album, Recently (under lobbyist pressure?). Joan spent time in the levant in the mid-80s as she tried to raise awareness of what was going on in Lebanon & Palestine in particular. The lyric still resonates deeply today.   Joan Beaz - Last, Lonely and Wretched 1971 Real deep cut from Joan and a strong anti-war lyric.  From her 1971 double LP Blessed Are...  Blessed be the peacemakers. Joan Baez has always been and still is a flag bearer for good, progressive, humanist and socialist ideals as well as a proponent of musical & artistic traditions. A fabulous artist all round, strong songwriter and a true living legend. Thank you for the music Joan
