Run good people come hear the minstrels, the gleemen, the troubadours and revel well in the rabble. Feast well, smoke and drink good ale but mind to stay far from trouble. Dance and sing, laugh and weep then, at dawn, fall happily into bed in a muddle.
Come all ye rolling minstrels strike your merry tune and tell your potent tale. Bang that drum hit those strings and raise your voices so hale. Paint us a canny picture before you hit again that lonely trail...
Folk rock world music & vibes
New song by Billy Bragg in support of Palestine and the Freedom Flotilla.
Inspired by E. Mark Windle's new book The Hundred Year Hunger: A Timeline of Food Insecurity & Malnutrition in Gaza
More action is needed and it's needed NOW.. Save the West Bank, save Gaza, save the Palestinian nation and it's people. Time for an all out international general strike in solidarity?
The Hundred Year Hunger: A Timeline of Food Insecurity & Malnutrition in Gaza
The book, as the title suggests, follows the series of deprivations suffered by the Palestinian people from the 1920s, through the founding of the state of Israel right up to the current diabolical famine. A published expert on thescience of diet & nutrition, Mark Windle zooms in on that aspect of Israeli policy & activity in particular while referencing Israeli, Palestinian and international reports & data.
This famine was and is being engineered by the Israeli state and, as Windle points out, is the culmination of years of systemic inhumane & aggressive policy over Palestine. Right now Netanyahu is seeking to bring this policy to a dreadful conclusion.. for the sake of our humanity the world cannot let that happen!
Please spread the word folks.. people need to be made aware that this has been going on for decades, long before October 2023, Hamas or the intifada. The fault & blame, of course, lies not with Israel alone but also with all the leading powers in the western world who have aided and abetted all along the way. In that sense WE'RE ALL CULPABLE
When protest is now longer allowed, what then? Selection of protest music 1950s-present. The current crackdown on certain modes of dissident action in the West, particularly environmental protest, signals a new era of totalitarianism & suppression of expression. A whole series of legislation, beginning in the 80s, have eroded & removed many of the rights that were formerly taken for granted while the cursed tranfer of power known as privatisation has leeched society and bled regular people dry. That heads of governments are seen to overtly collude with commercial titans & media moguls only reinforces the prevailing mood of helpess futility & inevitability, a feeling reinforced by economic neccessity and, crucially, the law. Criminal injustice at every level & on all fronts. Tribute to the late great Chris Cornell Solo works alongside killer tunes with Audioslave & Soundgarden as well as rocking music by close contemporaries from the grunge scene & beyond... Listen to Soundgarden Audioslave Chris Cornell & Co by Old Timer in Isan on hearthis.at Soundgarden have been a firm favorite since 1st hearing Badmotorfinger in 1992. I'd picked up a Sri Lankan bootleg tape copy & was blown away by it on my walkman as I chilled having a few smokes in my hotel room. Stunning stereo effects! Chris Cornell's deep & often disturbing lyrics - with their images of a distressed, tortured world/soul - have a notable air of authenticity & honesty which is reinforced by his outstanding voice & vocal delivery & backed up by Kim Tayil's excellently minimalistic guitar style, the perfect vehicle for these songs. Supergroup Audioslave helped lift him to another level again. The man's music will stand the test of time...
