Of Time and Rivers...
All era folk & psych-folk mix. Songs peak & interlude in & out in the famous tradition of live Grateful Dead shows. Talking about ebb & flow... just like a river flowing... as the very sands of time... Pete Seeger captured the essence of the inevitible passing of time wonderfully on two songs; River of My People & Of Time and Rivers Passing - both included here, the latter sung by Richie Havens in salute. See if you can spot any other river songs... Enjoy some SF Grateful Dead party vibes as we continue to commemorate & celebrate Bob, Phil, Jerry and all the other greats up there after Bob Weir's recent passing.

Strong north Cali Bay Area vibes. Slow-paced and spacy folk rock in the time-honored Grateful Dead jam band tradition. Music by Bob Weir, Jerry Garcia & David Grisman as well as a good few interesting cover versions scattered around here & there in the mix. We also highlight the longtime legend of the San Francisco music scene & supremely telented multi-instrumentalist Bert Keely with music from his supremely enjoyable 1979 LP Take Me Home as well as some more recent collaborations. His jazzy approach, composition and guitar playing is comparible with that of Scotland's John Martyn. Martyn helps us further jazz & space the mix out in the greatest Dead tradition with a couple of out there selections from Inside Out (1973). Singer-guitarist Richie Havens was indeed a giant of the Woodstock Festival and the soundtrack & movie that catapulted him to fame after 1969 but he was a formidable musician and dynamic live preformer with a good ear & knack for rearranging songs very effectively. Four powerful tracks here. Active on the music scene since the mid-60's, Richie passed away in 2013. Another spotlight on the great & venerable Ralph McTell. Anyone who grew up in 70s & 80s Britain will be familiar with Ralph's work and he was a familiar face on children's TV too. His trademark unhurried picking style and colourful songwriting are legendary. Featuring five of his songs, including a collaboration with Bert Jansch & a cover of Setting by Show of Hands. Three other scorchers from the SOH here, one a brilliant version of Peter Gabriel's Secret World. Folk singer Suzanne Vega makes a debut appearance on the blog with some songs from her early career (mid-late 1980's), including two cool interpretations of Dead classics. Lucy Kaplansky teamed up with Richard Shindell in 2015 for the rootsy Pine Hill Project sessions. Isolation by John Lennon (1970) is just fab like. A couple of mellow, laid-back songs from Rod Stewart & The Faces made their way onto the playlist later on to round things off ;) Enjoy.
