We set of with a beautiful introductory adhan from South African composer Abdulla Ibrahim. Some lovely Iranian music and songs by Abdolnaghi Afsharnia, Chengis Mehdipou, Parvin Javdan, the Ali Akbar Moradikayhan Kalhor and Persian rock band Barad. Rami Essam is an Egptian topical singer-guitarist and his Ramy Ramy is a real cry for freedom. Kelmti Horra (My Word is Free) is a wonderful song by Tunisian musician Emel Mathlouthi. Tiken Jah Fakoly is a powerfully outspoken reggae star from Senegal. Two tracks from his 2024 Acoustic album, Tonton America (Uncle America) and the once banned Plus Rien Ne M'étonne (Nothing Surprises Me Anymore), both highly critical of US interventionism. We also showcase the original reggae version later on. Red hot!
Guitarist Jesse Welles comes with tough protest songs like Genocide Cake & War isn't Murder. Jake Blound has a fresh, original sound, blending folk with black spiritual music and cross-Atlantic rhythm. Long has Maggie Holland been singing for peace and Give Them Water is particularly relevant right now. Classic late-70's tracks from Pink Floyd and Hawkwind. Also from that period comes the stomping Dead Kennedys track When Ya Get Drafted. Wishing Jello Biafra a speedy recovery from his recent health scare. Scotland's Karine Polwart teams up with Pippa Murphy for a brilliant extended cut of Robbie Burn's war lament Now Westlin' Winds, entitled here as Tyrannic Man's Dominion. Great stuff! More penetrating tracks from David Rovics' teriffic Notes From A Holocaust LP (2024), like the pointed Must Be an Antisemite. Classic anti-war songs from Steve Earle, Robert Plant, Jeffery Shurtleff, John Prine, Bruce Springsteen and others...
