Texan Americana trailblazer Guy Clark first came to prominance in the mid-1970's with the release of his superb first two albums recorded in Nashville. While his LPs were well received Clark was initially regarded primarily as a songwriter and remained very much an underground name until he enjoyed a strong rennaisance in later decades. Several of his compositions were high profile hits for big name artists over the years. Known for his relaxed, stripped-down approach to a playing and a distinctive spoken Texas drawl, he was an excellent songsmith and had a canny way with words. He released 13 studio and several live albums over a 40 year career and embarked on irregular tours, often touring or appearing at the same shows with the likes of Rodney CrowellWillie Nelson, Emmylou HarrisSteve Earle & Townes Van Zandt, all of whom were his good friends. His Nashville home was, in fact, long a regular metting place & hangout for musician friends. He made a particularly memorable appearance on the BBC Transatlantic Sessions in 1995. He continued working til the end, putting his last LP out in 2013. He passed away in Nashville in 2016 aged 75 leaving an indelible mark on American music and an enduring legacy.

Featuring six Guy Clark studio and live originals from across the years, including a duet with the evergreen Emmylou Harris. Four tracks from the 2024 Gillian Welch & David Rawlings Woodland LP, including Clark tribute Hashtag. Towne Van Zandt brings four more, with two deep live cuts from the Together at the Bluebird Cafe album (alongside Clark & Earle). Songs from Clarke protege Steve Earle tribute set - Guy (2019) with his band the Dukes. Ethno-musicologist and multi-instrumentalist Jake Brount released his debut album Spider Tales, an extraordinary string-based selection of traditional southern folk sounds, in 2020. Kate Rusby is a British folk artist. Here are two Songs from her Sleepless LP 1999. Jesse Welles comes again with the blazing protest song The Poor, marks: ten out of ten bravo, well said. Singer Adia Victoria is one of a kind, with a highly original, swampy, modern take on folk blues. Tracks lifted from her 2019 Silences LP. Another relative newcomer Mon Rovia does modern folk-acoustic-eclectic hybrid sounds described as 'afro-Appalachian' music. His very interesting Bloodline album just dropped in 2026.

A whole paddock full of more great Clark selections by the likes of Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Rodney Crowell, Kris Kristofferson, Ramblin' Jack Elliott, John Denver, Martin Simpson, John PrineBobby Bare and many others. Aaron Watson spoke-sang the very special tribute Ghost of Guy Clark in 2019. Two early John Martyn numbers fell into the mixing pot too...Enjoy
