Show of Hands lead the way with some stompin' early tracks from late 80's-mid 90's. The Well still resonates, especially now in an era of frequent water crises. Tracks from the tremendous Linda Thompson album Won't Be Long Now (2013). Rough music, an essential 2005 album by Eliza Carthy is pretty much a raucous recorded jam session. Two atmospheric tracks by Richard Shindell from his 1997 Reunion Hill. Frequent Shindell collaborator Lucy Kaplansky also features with three tracks from her 2007 album Over the Hills, including Johnny Cash cover Ring of Fire. Militant Senegalese reggae star Tiken Jah Fakoly released the superb Acoustic LP in 2024. Recorded with a group of players of traditional music and instruments who set the place afire as he revisits some of his toughest lyrics like Tata & Délivrance. Essential album. Jamaican superstar Buju Banton hit with the acoustic Story's Never Been Told in 1995 on his acclaimed Til Shiloh album. Its a heartfelt sufferer's anthem of the highest order. The song has never left my playlists since the day it came out! This session concludes with another fine 90's Buju song, Destiny. A few more folky cuts from reggae artists like Richie Spice (Upside Down 2005), the late great Junior Delgado (Hanging Tree 1998), Everton Blender teams up with his daughter Isha Blender for the serious Don't Be Used while east coast band Soldiers of Jah Army - SOJA - strum the powerful Prison Blues. The Bushwackers are back in town with three all-Australian broadsides about worker's rights & hardship/injustice in general and specifically the 1891 Shearer's Strike in Queensland. From the 1981 LPs Faces in the Street and Beneath the Southern Cross. Please excuse the quality of two of their recordings here as they are taken from badly equalised vinyl rips. I tried my best to clean them up as best I could. Guitar maestro Billy Strings does some relaxed & mellow topical tunes, great songs like Fire Line & Nothing's Working. Scottish band A Frightened Rabbit turned all knobs to full on Fuck this Place.

 

Pressing the nostalgia buttons here with a runaway 1979 hit for US Singer Thom Pace, Maybe, the theme tune for the old Life & Times of Grizzly Adams movie and TV series. Did anyone else watch it? I guess I was bang on the right age for it when it come on TV and I loved it. It left a lasting impression on me, in fact, I squarely blame Grizzly Adams for my lifelong fascination with wildernesses & hold him responsible in part measure for my latent anti-sociability.. hahaha... But seriously, they don't make great telly like that any more do they?
